In the severe winter of 1918, three schooners (from left to right: the Kineo, the Sylvania, and the M.F. Curtis ) are icebound in the outer harbor—it was an opportunity for curious townsfolk to visit and walk all around the vessels. (Cape Ann Museum, Gloucester, Massachusetts.)
